Stress CAN cause acne

cropcirclesAcne Myths are Myths

Acne “myths” you read online, usually aren’t myths at all. They are fact. These articles were written by some nerd in thick glasses(for the sake of the article, we’ll call him Bert) who happened to be blessed with dry or normal skin. They probably wash their face once a day(if that), and still come out with beautiful clear skin. The fact is, acne has a lot to do with your genes. Just like people claim there are “fat genes”, there are “acne genes” as well. This doesn’t mean we can’t treat the acne, it just means we have to work harder at it.

Myth #3

Acne is caused by stress. This is incorrect. Stress that people experience on a day-to-day basis has nothing to do with acne.

Raise your hand if you have experienced a skin outbreak on your face after a stressful occurrence in your life.  Keep your hand raised if the outbreak stayed the same or got worse as your stress continued.  Still keep your hand raised if the acne magically disappeared when your stress was neutralized.   Is your hand still raised?  I thought so.

You don’t need a PH.D to know stress can trigger acne, but you do need one if you are going to write that $80 per month prescription to “treat” the acne.  If you have a lot of stress in your life and your face has an outbreak as a result, do yourself a favor.  Before you pull out your checkbook to pay for that doctors appointment and $80 prescription, get some fresh air and get in some exercise.  Go for a jog.  Punch a heavy bag. Play your Nintendo Wii.  I don’t care what you do.  Just do something.  Exercise is one of the best things you can do to rid stress.

But my doctor said that taking acne pills was the only way to clear up my face and I trust my doctor.

Thats bologna.  I was told the exact same thing.  And you know what?  Not a single one of the 8 prescriptions I was given helped me.  I’m not saying your doctor is bad guy, but I am saying that acne is just not well understood by the medical field.  Make sure your face is clean at all times and minimize your stress.  That’s the key.  Not some pill and not some special “cream”.

Next time you get stressed out,  just accept that you are going to get a breakout.  Theres no since in stressing out over the acne, theoretically doubling the problem.   Just accept the breakout is going to happen.  At  your first convenience, exercise.  The exercise will alleviate your stress and either cause the outbreak to not occur, or minimize it.  Not to mention make you look better.  When you look better, you feel better.  When you feel better, you are less stressed.  When you are less stressed, you minimize you chances at acne.  Do this, and you will be one step closer to clear skin.
